Legends and myths about hidden treasures at its core, aliens and glowing orbs hovering above, stories of the positive energy it radiates, and extraordinary landscapes, along with its geometric pyramid-like shape, render Rtanj a natural beauty that is still insufficiently explored.
Rtanj represents a phenomenon that attracts an increasing number of tourists, adventurers, hikers, and scientists every year. Anyone who has visited this mountain at least once claims that the air here smells different and that nature looks completely unreal. Many also speak of the positive energy they felt while staying here.
Rtanj is also renowned for its endemic flora. One of the more famous species is "Saturea montana" - Rtanj tea, which possesses numerous medicinal properties.
At the summit of Rtanj - Šiljak (1,565 m), stands the ruins of the former church of St. George, which tourists eagerly visit. This church, besides being located on the highest peak of Rtanj, is interesting because it was built in 1936 by Greta, the wife of the owner of the Rtanj mine, Julius Minha, with the help of 1000 workers, in memory of her late husband. Today, only ruins remain at this location as gold prospectors have demolished it on several occasions.
The summit of Šiljak can be reached from various directions, via trails of varying difficulty. Depending on the difficulty of the trail and weather conditions, the duration of the ascent varies. Proper equipment is necessary for the climb, and if you lack experience in hiking and are unfamiliar with the trails, hiring an experienced guide is mandatory!
In addition to its fantastic nature, stories of extraordinary energy, pyramids, glowing orbs, and visits from aliens, visitors are also drawn by the hospitality of the local hosts and gastronomic specialties whose taste lingers long in memory.
