
The medieval fortress Sokograd is one of the most mystical tourist attractions in Sokobanja. The remains of the old city, defying time, beckon exploration of the hidden secrets within the surrounding greenery.
Destroyed and rebuilt several times, Sokograd stands on a rock above the canyon of the Moravica River. It was constructed at the end of the 13th and beginning of the 14th century, on the foundations of a Roman fortress dating back to the 4th - 6th centuries. Protected by high and steep cliffs, the city was difficult to conquer.From the Moravica canyon, one can see the stairs that once led to the city, and several towers with watchtowers, as well as the main tower, rise and defy time as enemies in their own time.
You can reach Sokograd by walking upstream along the Moravica River, and signs along the way indicate the direction to the top.

Sokograd is located 2 km southeast of the center of Sokobanja.
How to get there?
From the center of Sokobanja, you can reach Sokograd on foot via Banjica Park and the bridge over the Moravica River.
