Radul Beg's Konak is a monument to oriental culture in the city. It is located in the center of Zaječar and offers a glimpse into what Serbia looked like centuries ago. Also known as "Ninuca's House" or "Čardak," it is one of the oldest buildings in Zaječar.
Built at the end of the 18th century, after liberation from the Turks, it was sold to Radul Gligorijević, then the wealthiest man from the nearby village of Grljan. The name Radul Beg's Konak is derived from him.
Due to its central location, the foyer of Radul Beg's Konak is a favorite gathering place for the youth, reminiscent of carefree youth, first outings, and romances for generations of Zaječar residents.
Today, the upper floor of the konak houses a permanent exhibition called "Old Zaječar," which showcases the material and spiritual culture of the city from the 19th and 20th centuries (the Hadži-Pavlović salon, dining room, maiden's room, Turkish and Arabic rooms), while the ground floor features a gallery (where various cultural events take place).
An important cultural venue and gathering place for the people of Zaječar, Radul Beg's Konak is a beloved spot for all those who love history and culture.
Where is it located and how to get there?
