
The Museum of Knjaževac is located in the house of Alekse "Aca" Stanojević (1852-1947), a radical figure who played an important role in the political life of Serbia and the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, at the end of the 19th century and in the first half of the 20th century.
The house was built from 1903 to 1912 according to the plans of the construction entrepreneur Johan Fogler from Vienna, at a time when Aca Stanojević was the president of the National Assembly. Its exterior design reflects the character of an Italian villa from the early 20th century.
Through the doors of this house, the period when Knjaževac formed as a town as one of the oldest towns in Serbia. Personal belongings of Aca Stanojević serve as a guide through his life, and numerous exhibits remind visitors of the richness of the region's history.
