Sokobanja is not only known for its healing waters and mountains, clean air, and gastronomic specialties. It hides secrets of the past waiting to be explored. One of them is Vrmdžan Castle.
Embark on an adventure beneath Rtanj, where the remains of the old Vrmdžan Castle are located. Locals refer to this castle as "Latin," and it is reliably known to date back to the Roman era, originating in the period up to the 6th century. It is associated with the reign of Emperor Justinian.
Built for defense against the incursions of the Avars and Slavs, it was destroyed in 1416. Legend has it that it was plundered by Musa Kesedžija, the greatest rival of the Serbian hero Marko Kraljević.
